Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski tells brilliant story of trying to help Son win Golden Boot

Dejan Kulusevsky told a brilliant story about how he tried to help Son Heung-min win the premier league Golden Boot on the last day of the Premier League season.

Appearing on Podcast DÅ ÄR VI IGÅNGthe Swede explained how, against Norwich, he tried to pass to Son instead of shooting when presented with an open goal.

Spurs had to beat Norwich on the final day to break into the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

But there was another prize to be won as Son entered the game one goal behind Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Golden Boot.

Spurs led 2-0 at half-time with goals from Kulusevski and Harry Kane.

Qualification for the Champions League seemed to be assured, so attention turned to helping Son outclass Salah.

However, it looks like Kulusevski went a bit too far trying to help the South Korean, as he has now brilliantly explained.

“Two minutes before the goal there was a weird situation,” he began.

“I was free with the goalkeeper. Many things have fallen.

“A guy tackled me. I am alone with the guard. I thought ‘Should I lie down? He will be expelled.

“But I was like ‘No, I have to score of course.’

“So their keeper comes out and then hesitates. So I realize that I will get there first. So I run ahead of him. I have an empty lens in front of me. I was like ‘Man, this is awkward’, I don’t really like having an open lens.

“And the fans are right next to me, you know. They shout “Give me, give me” right next to me. I’m like ‘Take a deep breath. Take your time, Dejan. You have an open goal.

“I’m looking at it, you know it’s definitely empty!” But I take one more touch. Then I think ‘Now maybe it’s time to finally shoot’.

“But then I see Son. I see my teammate Son. He’s like ‘Pass me the ball!’ He needs one more goal to win the Golden Boot. And we all said before the game that we had to switch to Son. You know Son has to win the Golden Boot.

“So I’m like ‘Dejan, forget the goal you have of helping Son’. I pass the ball and when I pass the ball I get stuck on the ground. So it becomes a bad touch and the ball slowly rolls down. goal and they clear the ball on the goal line. And I just stand there after and think ‘Bro… Dejan… What the hell are you doing?’

“I think ‘You are the biggest idiot’. And I was so ashamed.

“And I was so frustrated and I was like giving myself the ball again. Then two minutes later I get the ball again and I don’t think at all that I just put the ball in the top corner.

Great.

VIDEO: Dejan Kulusevski tries to pass to Son instead of scoring

Kulusevski scored a few minutes later and, luckily for him, Son netted twice to wrap up a 5-0 win. Salah only managed one strike as Liverpool beat Wolves, meaning the two players shared the Golden Boot.

And recently Son revealed that Antonio Conte had in fact told the player to switch to Son at half-time with Spurs already 2-0 up – clearly something that was on Kulusevski’s mind.

“I was happy to be rewarded, but I was much happier because the teammates were also delighted. The boss didn’t think about it, he just focused on the Champions League,” Son told a press conference in Korea.

“But he spoke at half time to the team to help Sonny score and get the Golden Boot. To be honest, I was a bit anxious because I didn’t have any scoring chances, but I got my spirits back after he said that.

“When Lucas Moura and Steve Bergwijn came on as substitutes, they said they would help me score. It wasn’t easy because we are both teammates and competitors. I was really happy for them.”
