The cast of the film – then and now

Zoinks! Hard to believe that was 20 years ago!

On June 8, 2002, the world of CINEMA changed forever when the masterpiece that is Scooby-Doo: The Movie created, bringing the Mystery Inc. gang out of the world of 2D animation and into the realm of live action.

Aww, the nostalgia that emanates from this image has me EMOTIONAL.

This film achieved so much, but the casting was truly a stroke of genius. The actors portrayed these classic characters with such ease that it’s hard to believe they didn’t originate these roles.

They said “let’s give the girls cinematic EXCELLENCE!”

Now 20 years have passed, so let’s catch up with the Mystery Inc. gang to see what they’ve been up to over the past two decades.

Since his days as the self-proclaimed leader of The Gang’s™ and resident himbo, Freddie Prinze Jr. (aka Mr. Michelle Gellar) has gone on to star in his own sitcom titled freddieparticipated in several star wars projects including The Rise of Skywalker and The bad lot, and was even a director and producer for WWE! Wild, but true!

The star went smoothly from teen idol to big zaddy, and you can catch him later this year in Netflix’s holiday movie, Christmas with you!

After lighting up the screen as Mystery Inc.’s it-girl and martial arts badass, the buffy the star cemented her place in pop culture history by playing a role in the now classic horror flick The Grudgevoiced Teela in the Netflix series Masters of the Universe: Revelationand has given much of his time to charities like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Project Angel Food.

She has also entered the culinary space by publishing her own cookbook titled Stirring up the fun with food and co-founded Foodstirs, a startup that sells organic baking kits! SMG FTW!

Hot on the heels of the cult classic, freaks and geeks, Cardellini took on the role of franchise MVP, Velma. And in the time that followed, she WORKED, GIRL! After his award-winning run on the hit show Emergency roomshe continued to act in Brokeback Mountainthe Disney+ series Hawk Eyeand the hit show dead to me which earned him an Emmy nomination!

And as for Velma herself, she’s getting her own Mindy Kaling-directed HBO Max animated series set to drop by the end of 2022, and I think that deserves a good old “jinkies!”

Matthew Lillard was perfect as everyone’s favorite stoner… uh, verrrrry chill, greedy and aloof. (Of course, we’ll go with that.) Recently, he was seen in the She is all that remake He is all thatmade cameos in both Cry 4 and Scream (2022), and even founded a tabletop game accessories company, Beadle & Grimm’s.

Lillard was so good as Shaggy that he not only received a Kid’s Choice Award for “Favorite Fart in a Movie” (lol), but he also portrayed the character in over 35 Scooby-related projects! Like, totally away, maaaan!

His character may have been new to the franchise, but the Aussie actor took that role of the flower child with allergies and made it POP! Since her Scooby days, Fisher has been seen in loads of projects like wedding crashes and Confessions of a Shopaholicand more recently Godmother and the romantic drama series Peacock, wolf like me.

And outside of the theater, she caused a stir in the play of the children’s book, author of the highly successful Margin and Responsible series! Go away, sister!

Rowan Atkinson in 2022:

How can we forget Rowan Atkinson in the role of Mondavarious? Who turned out to be a robot?! Controlled by the famous Scrappy-Doo?! WILD TWIST! Since this completely banal turn, our friend Mr. Bean has continued to play in the Johnny English trilogy, and spent quite a bit of time racing cars? ! Who knew?

Last year, he made headlines after the pilot of his private plane passed out at the controls, and the actor had to hold the plane steady until the pilot regained consciousness! It may be a robot after all!

Ok, technically I’m not in the cast, but do you remember James Gunn writing this movie?? After Scooby, Gunn’s career exploded, writing and directing the guardians of the galaxy movies and more recently The Suicide Squad. He also has a background in music, having composed songs for the Scooby movies and Movie 43.

On the film’s 15th anniversary, Gunn revealed that the first cut of scooby-doo was R-rated!!!!! And we could have seen it if it weren’t for those kids mingling!!!

Since his days on set, Scoob has opted for a quiet life away from the spotlight, asking the question “Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you?” Although he hasn’t played since 2004 Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, we still hope it will return to the big screen if there is a third episode. And in the age of remakes and reboots, why not?
