Michael Jackson Thought Thriller Was Only Beaten By One Album | Music | Entertainment
When Michael Jackson released Thriller, it was an eye opener for the music industry. The record went straight to number one on the album charts across the globe, spending 37 weeks atop the US Billboard charts. It has since gone 34x Platinum and still remains one of the best-selling albums of all time, with over 70 million copies sold worldwide. Almost 20 years later, Michael released his tenth album, something he thought was a better record overall.
Michael released Invincible on October 30, 2001. The album was his last release before his death eight years later in 2009.
The album reached number one in 14 countries and sold over 360,000 units in its first week.
However, his reviews were poor. Rolling Stone and Q gave the album three out of five stars, while The Guardian gave it two out of five stars.
Although he was not well received, Michael preferred Invincible to Thriller.
He said after his release: “It’s tough because you’re competing against yourself. Invincible is just as good or better than Thriller, IMHO.” (Via ABC News)

Michael continued, âIt has more to offer. Music is what lives and lasts. Invincible was a big hit.â When The Nutcracker Suite was first presented to the world, it totally bombed. What’s important is the end of the story. âThe star, who was 43 at the time, then revealed how he struggled to finish the album on time.
Michael also spoke about the themes of Invincible – something he revealed he didn’t care about at the time.
He said: “I let the music create itself. I love that it is a medley of all kinds of sounds, all kinds of colors, something for everyone from Irish farmer to the lady who cleans the toilets in Harlem. “
In 2002, however, he explained that “fun” inspired him to write a song on the album.
He spoke to Vibe magazine at the time, where he said he found inspiration after having water balloon fights with German children.
Michael said: âI was so happy after the fight that I ran upstairs to their house and wrote Speechless. The fun inspires me.
âI hate to say that because it’s such a romantic song. But it’s the fight that made it. I was happy, and I wrote it in its entirety right there. would be good enough for the album. happiness comes from magic, wonder and creativity. “
