If you’ve been in town lately, you’ve probably noticed that our sidewalks on East Brutus Street are getting a facelift. The library will remain open throughout construction, and with new sidewalks, there’s a lot to look forward to at the library this spring!

Our 2022 Field of Honor will honor fallen veterans. For a $5 donation, a 12 inch by 18 inch American flag will be proudly displayed on our lawn and illuminated at night. The names of honored veterans are listed in the library display case. To order a flag, you can stop by the library or print out a form from our website at The flags will be displayed from May 27 to June 13. The last day to order is May 25.

The May Book Club will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17 and will cover Nadia Hashimi’s debut novel ‘The Pearl that Broke Its Shell’, a tale covering the lives of two surviving Afghan women adopting the custom of bacha posh, or s to dress as a boy until marriageable age. Please contact the library if you would like to join the club – the more the better.

The Craft Night will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19. Bring along whatever craft project you’re working on and enjoy each other’s company. All are welcome, no registration required.

Our knitting group will meet at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31. All are welcome. A crochet project certainly wouldn’t be turned down.

The library will hold its biannual plant exchange from Monday June 6th until Saturday June 11th. During this time, bring any plant you wish to leave or trade, fill out a brief description, and take a new one home with you! Both indoor and outdoor plants are welcome.

Senior Cinema at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7 will present the 2021 version of “West Side Story” directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg. Popcorn will be served, we look forward to seeing you there!

The Red Cross will be offering free training at the open library for ages 13 and up at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7. “Be Red Cross Ready” is a home emergency preparedness training that covers general household emergencies and home fires. Hands-only CPR training will follow, covering the basics of this life-saving skill. These trainings would be ideal for young teens who feel comfortable staying home alone, older adults or caregivers, in addition to adults in general. Registration is mandatory. Please call the library to register.

Come to Family Movie Night at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 20! We will present the film “Turning Red”. From Disney: “Disney and Pixar’s ‘Turning Red’ features Mei Lee, a confident and silly 13-year-old girl torn between remaining her mother’s devoted daughter and the chaos of adolescence. Her protective, if not slightly overbearing mother, Ming, is never far from her daughter – a sad reality for the teenager. And as if changes in her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited (which is practically always does), she transforms into a giant red panda! “Turning Red” is rated PG with a 1 hour and 40 minute run time.” Popcorn and bottled water will also be provided. Children 6 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Lego Club will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 26. Legos are provided. Bring your creativity! The Lego creations will be on display in the library for two weeks. This program is for ages 4 to 13. No need to register.

Come to the library for story time! Toddler Rhyme Time is a weekly program that takes place on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. This program includes stories, songs and plays and is aimed at children 18 months to 2 years old. Caregivers are encouraged to participate.

It’s almost time for Weedsport’s Free Library Summer 2022 Reading Schedule! This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities”. Registration begins June 27. Here’s a sneak peek: we’ve already got plenty of specials planned, including a magician, a theater troupe, a traveling physics band, and even a pirate! Be on the lookout for specific details at the library!
