Author Sally Evans’ new book ‘Peg’s Story’ is an inspiring memoir of the life and achievements of an indomitable wife, wife and mother

Sally Evans, a former elementary school teacher from Ohio who eventually settled with her husband in Dallas, Texas, where she shared her passion for the outdoors by starting a chapter of the Master Naturalists in her county, in contributor to an Audubon chapter and the Texas Association of Environmental Educators, and facilitator of Texas parks and wildlife teacher training programs, has completed her new book “Peg’s Story”: a nostalgic compilation of the evocative reflections of her late mother-in-law on a fulfilled life.

The author shares, “The COVID-19 pandemic has meant that many of us have had time to clean out closets, drawers, and files. I came across my mother-in-law’s autobiography. Her story was something I wanted her daughter and granddaughters to know. It would give a better understanding of how women coped with life and the “rules” of the day. She was an educated woman and loved music, her family and literature. She was good at writing and wrote articles and stories for magazines and the local newspaper. I found many untold stories and some poems and book reviews. They are a pleasure to read. She was a teacher for middle school English classes and brought literature to them in an interesting and fun way. Her four children all graduated from college, and two of them earned doctorates and became college professors. There are several other teachers among the spouses and grandchildren (there were nine grandchildren).

Those of us whose parents grew up in the 20th century must understand the immense changes in life and mores, work and technology, travel and world consciousness. These people faced extremely rapid life changes, and they did it well. We need to read their stories and thank them for the lifestyle we are currently living.
